April Osteen Simons is the daughter of John Hillery Osteen (August 21, 1921 – January 23, 1999) and Dolores (“Dodie”) Pilgrim, founders of Lakewood Church. Her parents started the Church in “a dusty, abandoned feed store” in northeast Houston as a church for charismatic Baptists. She was born in the year 1967, in Houston, Texas.

April Osteen Simons lost her father and her mother battled cancer. April’s father John Osteen died on January 23, 1999, in Houston, Texas, U.S. He died at age 77 after a heart attack. In 1981, April’s mother Dodie Osteen was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She was informed that “there was no treatment that could be given to her.” The cancer almost ended her life. She was 48 years old at the time. She got healed miraculously and has been cancer free.
