Emma Walton Hamilton is the first child of Julie Andrews
Julie Andrews’s oldest daughter Emma Walton Hamilton was born to her and her first husband Tony Walton on Nov. 27, 1962, in London, England. As of 2023, Emma is 61 years old. Just a few months after having her daughter, the actress moved to Hollywood with then-husband Tony Walton and her daughter to film Mary Poppins,- she revealed in her memoir Home Work.

Julie Andrews and her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton’s close bond goes all the way to when Emma was very young- Talking to the Guardian about her relationship with her daughter, Julie said- “We were bonded from the beginning because of, well, so many reasons,” she told The Guardian. “Emma’s dad, my first husband, and I separated, and that helped us. I knew it was really important for me to make Emma’s childhood as normal as possible, even though it was incredibly abnormal in many ways. But the same team traveled together, we were together as much as possible.“
Emma Walton Hamilton and her mother are also business partners. The mother and daughter have been co-authoring children’s books together, including bestsellers like The Very Fairy Princess and some of Andrews’ memoirs. Joanna Edwards was adopted by Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards from Vietnam in 1975, a year after they brought home Amy. “Amy came into our lives and it was wonderful. Then Saigon began to fall and within three months, we had another one,” Andrews once told The Australian Women’s Weekly, per Closer. “We said [to the orphanage where Amy had come from], ‘We know you are not going to be able to do this for long. Once the South falls [adoptions will cease] so if you care to send us another one, please do.’ So suddenly Joanna was with us, and they were not sisters, but like sisters.“
