Randy Jackson is a singer-songwriter, musician, and dancer. He was a member of his family band the Jacksons. He was very young at the time The Jackson 5, later the Jacksons was formed which is why he isn’t an original member of the Jackson 5. The Jackson 5 originally consisted of Randy’s brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael.
For the first time, Randy Jackson appeared live with his brothers in 1971 during a Christmas show the Jackson 5 held for blind children. Randy was involved in every Jackson 5 tour since 1972, mainly playing the congas and other instruments but he wasn’t officially a member of the family band. It was in 1975 that Randy officially joined the band, replacing his brother Jermaine.
The Jackson 5 then officially changed their name to the Jacksons. Randy Jackson was at the age of 16 at the time he co-wrote the Jacksons’ most successful single on Epic, “Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)” with Michael. Randy plays instruments such as the bongos, congas, keyboard, piano, drums, bass, and guitar, among others.
Randy Jackson often performed alongside his sister Janet Jackson, and the duo won fame on Dinah Shore’s show. By the late 1970s, Randy was preparing his first solo album titled, “How Can I Be Sure?, which featured the first recording of his sister Janet, on a song titled “Love Song For Kids”.

However, the album was not released because Randy was involved in an unexpected car crash and he was seriously injured. In June 1980, he appeared on the cover of the weekly African-American newsmagazine Jet. The cover headline read: “Randy Jackson Walks Again: Talks About His Future.” He worked with his brother Michael on his album Off the Wall.
Randy Jackson and his siblings joined USA For Africa to sing in “We Are The World”. He wasn’t included in the Jackson 5’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, only the five original members were inducted. The Jacksons disbanded and Randy became the founder of the group “Randy & The Gypsys”, which released one album.
Randy co-founded Total Multimedia Inc. In 1998, he opened up his record label, Modern Records. He is the co-partner with his sister, Janet Jackson, at her independent record label Rhythm Nation Records.
