The late Lou Costello was best known for his double act with straight manBud Abbott and their routine “Who’s on First?”. He was a married man with 4 children. His children are Patricia Costello, Carole Costello, Lou Costello Jr, and Chris Costello. He gave birth to his children with his beloved wife Anne Battler, who was a dancer.

Patricia Costello

Lou Costello and his wife Anne Battler got married on January 30, 1934, in a beautiful ceremony in front of friends and family. They welcomed their first child, a daughter called Patricia “Paddy” Costello. Patricia was born in 1936. She is 86 years old as of 2022.

Patricia Costello is known for her appearance in an episode of This Is Your Life in 1956. Patricia prefers a private life and she has stayed out of the spotlight. Much is still unknown about her personal life.

Carole Costello

Lou Costello and Anne Battler’s second child is Carole Costello. Carole was born on December 23, 1938. She became an actress and had a brief career in a few TV onscreen bit parts. According to her IMDb profile, she is known for My Three Sons (1960), Card Sharks (1986), and Trivia Trap (1984).

Carole Costello also worked as a contestant coordinator for Game Shows for Goodsen-Todman Productions of the 1980s. She was married three times and has four children. She got married to Gregg Jakobson and later John Timothy Koester. She then married Craig Martin, the son of entertainer Dean Martin.

They were married until Carole died. Unfortunately, stroke ended Carole Costello’s life. She died on March 29, 1987, in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California, USA, at age 48. She was survived by her husband Craig Martin, and her four children from previous marriages.

Lou Costello and Anne Battler’s third child is Lou Costello Jr. aka Butch. Lou Jr was born on November 6, 1942, but sadly he died when he was 11 months old, on November 4, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Lou Jr accidentally drowned in the family pool, unnoticed by the nanny. Lou Jr worked loose the slats in his playpen and fell into the pool.

Chris Costello

Lou Costello and Anne Battler welcomed their fourth and final child Chris Costello. She was born in 1949. She is 73 years old as of 2022. She is an actress, known for Code Name Zebra (1987), The Colgate Comedy Hour (1950) and Behind the Burly Q (2010). Chris published a biography titled Lou’s on First in 1981.

Lou Costello’s Death

The father of four, Lou Costello suffered a heart attack and died on March 3, 1959, at age 52. He died at Doctors Hospital in Beverly Hills, three days before his 53rd birthday. His death happened shortly after finishing his only film, The 30 Foot Bride of Candy Rock after his partnership with Bud Abbott was over.

A Funeral Mass was held at his Catholic parish, St. Francis de Sales in Sherman Oaks. He was interred at the Calvary Cemetery in East Los Angeles on March 8. Lou Costello Memorial Park, Paterson, New Jersey, and Lou Costello Memorial Association are named after him.

Lou Costello has a statue that was erected on June 26, 1992. His birthplace Madison Street, Paterson, was named after him as Lou Costello Place in 2005. He was also inducted into New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2009.

Lou Costello’s wife and the mother of his children, Anne battler died from an apparent heart attack nine months later on December 5, 1959, at age 47.
