She is known for being the first and youngest woman in space, having flown a solo mission on the Vostok 6 on 16 June 1963.

Yuliy Shaposhnikov is the son of Georgy Shaposhnikov. He has very little information about his early life available on the internet. His family history and background are unknown. Not much is known of his education however, he was a student at First Moscow State Medical University also known as Sechenov University.
Yuliy Shaposhnikov was a successful surgeon. He was a physician working at a military medical academy. He was a Military surgeon and Major General of the Medical Service. He was also the Director of the Central Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics (CITO).
Aside from being known in his works circles, he is widely known as the husband of Valentina Tereshkova. Yuli Shaposhnikov met his future wife Valentina Tereshkova during Valentina’s medical examinations to re-qualify as a cosmonaut. They dated for some time and eventually, Yuli proposed to Valentina.
Valentina accepted and in the year 1982, they officially became husband and wife. Yuli and his wife Valentina Tereshkova were in love with each other. Their union was a happy one. Perhaps, they would have stayed together until today but unfortunately, Yuli’s death came their way.

During their marriage, the couple didn’t have any children together. However, Yuli Shaposhnikov was a stepfather. He was the stepfather of his wife Valentina’s daughter Elena Andrianovna Nikolaeva-Tereshkova from her marriage to the late Soviet cosmonaut Andriyan Nikolayev.
Elena Andrianovna, born on 8 June 1964, in Moscow, Russia, is 58 years old as of 2022. She is a physician. She worked as a medical doctor for several years. She is an orthopedic surgeon. Valentina Tereshkova and Andriyan Nikolayev were married on 3 November 1963 at the Moscow Wedding Palace.
Nikita Krushchev, the Premier of the Soviet Union during that time, presided over the wedding, which top government officials and fellow cosmonauts attended, and members of the space program. The marriage was encouraged by the Soviet space authorities as a “fairy-tale message to the country”.
General Kamanin, head of the space program, described it as “probably useful for politics and science”. Valentina and Andriyan’s marriage started facing problems. The couple even didn’t want to stand close to each other in photographs. Their marriage collapsed and in 1982, they divorced.
Andriyan Nikolayev died on 3 July 2004, in Cheboksary, Chuvashia, Russia. He died of a heart attack at age 74.

Yuliy Shaposhnikov’s wife, Valentina Tereshkova retired from the Air Force in the year 1997, after getting the rank of major general. She graduated from the Zhukovsky Air Force Engineering Academy and was re-qualified for spaceflight but never went to space again.

Valentina remained an instructor at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. She was a prominent member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, holding various political offices.
