Mitchell Moranis’s father Rick married his mother, Anne Belsky in 1986, and together they had two children. Belsky died of breast cancer in 1991 and Moranis reduced the number of roles he took as he looked to spend more time looking after his children.
Moranis made his television debut when he joined the cast of Second City Television, a Canadian sketch show. The show was barely getting started when Moranis arrived, and it quickly became syndicated in America. With friend and comic Dave Thomas, he created the smash sketch Great White North.
The sketch was such a smash that it became a regular on the program, and it even spawned a Grammy-nominated comedy CD. Strange Brew, a film featuring Moranis and Thomas’ Great White North characters Doug and Bob McKenzie, was released in 1983.
