In reaction to the gruesome killing of 10-year-old Ishmael, most Ghanaians including the family of the young boy are requesting life imprisonment of the two teenage suspects identified as Felix Nyarko and Nicholas Kini. The Central Regional Police Command has replied family of the 10-year-old boy who was seeking a life imprisonment sentence for the two killers of their relative, Ishmael.
According to the police, the two suspects would unlikely be sentenced to life imprisonment as demanded by the family because they’re juveniles.
The father of the deceased, Frank Mensah Abdallah has earlier stated that he’ll take the laws into his own hands and seek justice for his late son. The family is seeking life imprisonment sentence for the two culprits.
But according to the police, the two ‘murderers’ cannot be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Public Relations Officer of the Central Regional Police Command, DSP Irene Oppong speaking on Hello FM said, “ In the case of juvenile, the sentence can’t exceed five years. In some sentences, they can be sentenced for only threes years and that depends on the discretion of the judge”.
he two suspects appeared in the Ofaakor District Court on April 6.
Felix Nyarko, 15 and Nicholas Kini, 17 have been remanded in police custody and to reappear in Court on April 20.
The court presided by her worship Rosemond Vera Ocloo remanded them to allow police to conduct more investigation into the matter.
