Billy Connolly’s eldest son, Jamie Connolly struggled with addiction. His father Billy revealed that Jamie has been battling a drug and alcohol addiction. Billy made this known during an episode of his ITV travel series Billy Connolly’s Great American Trail. Billy said Jamie attended Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings to fight his problem.

Billy Connolly said of Jamie Connolly: My son has a problem and he’s in AA and NA. He told me when he went to the detox place some kids were being let out and they were back on the stuff before they got to the railway station. It’s so powerful. People who don’t know about it say “why do they take it, just say no”. He added: “Just stop and you’ll be better”. Duh. It’s extraordinary.’

Jamie’s Mother Pass Away In 2010

Jamie Connolly’s mother Iris Pressagh is no longer alive as she died in 2010 at the age of 67. She suffered from alcoholism. According to The Sun, Billy Connolly decided to take it upon himself to spread his ex-wife Iris Pressagh’s remains near Candacraig House, where he lived with his second wife Pamela Stephenson. Jamie and his sister Cara Connolly reportedly attended the ceremony on the banks of the River Don in Aberdeenshire.

Billy Connolly’s current wife Pamela Stephenson made it known that Billy was devastated over Iris Pressagh’s demise, in an introduction to her bestselling biography, ‘Billy’. She writes: “Billy had felt great compassion for her struggle with alcoholism and, although he had not seen her for many years, he was greatly shocked and saddened by her passing.”

Iris Pressagh was an interior designer who was introduced to shipyard welder Billy — then a struggling folk musician playing Glasgow pubs — by his banjo teacher Ron Duff. She fled to France to pick grapes after having a furious row and after four months Billy sent her a letter saying: “Come home now or don’t bother coming home at all.” It was when Iris returned that she and Billy got married at a city registry office in 1969.

Pamela Stephenson revealed in an edition of her book that Iris did battle a mental affliction. She wished she had been helped. Pamela writes: “Personally I had not understood that Iris had suffered from a serious hoarding disorder (we all learned this after her death) and felt very sorry she had struggled so much without receiving the kind of psychological treatment that might have helped her.”

However, Billy Connolly has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative brain disease, since 2013. He also underwent minor surgery for early-stage prostate cancer. He knew earlier in 2013 that he had started to forget his lines during performances.
