Who is Iris Pressagh?

Irish Pressagh was born on January 1, 1943, in Springburn, Glasgow, United Kingdom to her parents William Pressagh (1915-2002) and Helen ‘Nelly’ Donaldson Williams. The Wife of the retired comedian is also sometimes known as Iris Connolly or Isobel Iris Pressagh. In 1969, a 26-year-old Connolly tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony with Springburn native and interior designer Iris Pressagh. Iris Pressagh was introduced to Billy shipyard welder Billy — then a struggling folk musician playing Glasgow pubs by his banjo teacher and the couple instantly clicked.

When the two were dating, they had a raging argument and Iris fled to France, leading Billy to write a letter telling her to come home. She then hitchhiked back to Glasgow and that was when the pair got married at a registered office in 1969. Iris Pressagh backed him financially while he tried to crack the comedy circuit — until he became a household name overnight thanks to an outrageous turn as a guest on the BBC’s Parkinson chat show in 1975 per thesun.

After they got married, The couple initially lived on Redlands Road in Glasgow’s West End, but when fans began to wait out in the street they made the decision to move out for their own safety. They moved to Drymen near the southeastern shore of Loch Lomond. Billy Connolly and his ex-wife had two children together-  Jamie Connolly and Cara Connolly.

After 16 years of marriage, the couple decided to go their separate ways. In 1985, Billy Connolly divorced his ex-wife Iris Pressagh, his wife of sixteen years (they had separated four years earlier), and the comedian was awarded custody of their two children Jamie and Cara.

Irish Pressagh passed away in 2010 at the age of 67. According to the dailymail, she died suffering from alcoholism in Alicante County, Pais Valenciano Spain. Her ex-husband Big Yin agreed to spread her remains near Candacraig House — where he lived with second missus Pamela Stephenson. Iris and Billy’s kids Jamie, and Cara are thought to have been at the emotional ceremony on the banks of the River Don in Aberdeenshire.

A 1997 interview with her that was published in the “Sunday Mail” in Glasgow Scotland, gives insight into her and her vision of her life, a few years before she died.

Connolly is now married to another woman. He met his current wife Pamela Stephenson when she was a star on the BBC comedy Not The Nine O’Clock News. The pair were married in 1989. Sir Billy Connolly also reveals his eldest son, 50, is battling an addiction to drink and drugs. The Scottish comedian said that Jamie, who is from his first marriage to Iris Pressagh, had been to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings to get help dailymail reports.

Stephenson wrote a book that revealed that Iris Pressagh suffered from a serious hoarding disorder. According to the Sun, she wrote: ‘I felt very sorry she had struggled so much without receiving the kind of psychological treatment that might have helped her.’
