Aridio Saldaña was born in The Dominican Republic but moved to the United States of America for a better life. He meet the actress’s mother  Asalia Nazario and the couple had three children including Zoe- The other two children are Mariel Saldaña Nazario and Cisley Saldaña Nazario. The Saldana sisters spent their childhood in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York City, and the Avatar actress confirmed in an interview that she is Dominican from her father’s side and Puerto Rican from her mother’s side. She also confirmed being Bilingual in English and Spanish.

What happened to Zoe Saldana’s father Aridio Saldaña?

Unfortunately, Aridio Saldaña didn’t live long enough to see his daughter raise to fame. The actress’s father died in a vehicle crash when she was nine in 1987. In a new interview with Emmy magazine, The Guardian of the Galaxy actress Zoe Saldaña reflected on how “hard” things were after the sad passing of her father. According to BHW, Aridio passed away at the age of 37.

Zoe recalled how her grandmother broke the sad news that her father had been killed in a car accident. “I remember her drinking coffee and saying, ‘We’re going to get through this,'” she said. “‘Papa wants us to get through this. But please understand this part of life: death came knocking and took one of us.”- She told Emmy Magazine,  E! News reported.

After the passing of Aridio Saldaña, The girls were sent to the Dominican Republic to be raised by their late father’s family. However, their mother stayed behind to work long hours as a courtroom translator and a hotel maid to support Zoe and her sister in order to afford private school for the girls.
