Following in the footsteps of his famous father, Hugh Laurie’s son Bill is known for the film Fortysomething (2003) when he was 12 years old. Though he has not achieved his father’s level of fame, he is leaving a mark in the industry in his own way.
It seems the whole family has had their own fair share of acting. William’s eldest brother Charlie played a small role as baby William in A Bit of Fry & Laurie, during a sketch entitled “Special Squad”. When Laurie began acting in “House” in 2004, and had to be away from his kids since he had to film overseas in Los Angeles. Hugh Laurie talked about the struggles of being away from his adorable children- “It’s a very difficult thing [being so far from my kids],” he told the Daily Record in 2012, noting that his morning is nighttime for his beloved kids, making it difficult to connect.
He continued- “I constantly marvel at how grown-up my children are, how grown-up they’re being about this,” The “House” actor said “I worry about parenting at this sort of distance, but they are being so generous and so cool about it that. I mean, it might be because they’re English, and they won’t reveal their psychological damage until they’re in their late forties.”
The Blackadder star once again revealed in an interview back in 2009 that he worries about William Albert Laurie and his siblings while he spends time overseas working. He told Scotland’s Daily Record at the time: “It’s a very difficult thing [being away].” revealing the reason why he didn’t move his family to the United States.
“I have this vague feeling that the moment I’m comfortable with my place in the world there’ll be retribution,” he told Radio Times in 2008 (via ). “That’s one reason I didn’t want my family to live here. The moment we put down roots the whole thing will be called off.” The actor feared the series would be canceled.
William Albert Laurie’s parents have not revealed how they first met, however, William’s mother Jo Green was a theatre administrator and they got married on 16 June 1989 in the Camden area of London. His father, Laurie’s best friend, and long-time comedy partner Stephen Fry was the best man at his wedding and is the godfather of William Albert Laurie and his siblings. The couple has been married for more than 32 years with no marriage drama and divorce rumors.

Though everything looks well from the outside, William Albert Laurie’s father Hugh discussed his struggles with severe clinical depression while appearing on Inside the Actors Studio in 2006 with host James Lipton.
He told the host that he first concluded he had a problem whilst driving in a charity demolition derby, during which he realized that seeing two cars collide and explode made him feel bored rather than excited or frightened; he quipped that “boredom is not an appropriate response to exploding cars”. He continues to have regular sessions with a psychotherapist.
