On November 12, 2020, former President John Jerry Rawlings gave up the ghost at Korle-Bu Teaching hospital after a short illness.
However, the mortal remain of the late President has raised a lot of unquestionable cultural demands and state directives. As to who will have access and control of the mortal remain of the late Papa J.
Recently, the government of Ghana announced December 23, 2020, as the final day for the burial of the late President.
However, it was postponed due to some pertinent frustrations that were expressed by the Anlo Traditional Council.
In spite of that the former Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, recently announced the burial dates, activities and location of the late statesman funeral after wider consultation with the planning committee.
They agreed that the late President John Jerry Rawling’s will be buried on January 27, 2021, at the Military Cemetery in Accra.

The office of the Agbotui and Allied Family’s have released a letter on January 19, 2021, opposing the time and location of the late statesman burial.
According to the letter released the Chief and people of Anlo State have resolved to take the mortal remains of the late President and perform the needful traditional burial rite.
The Chief and people of the Anlo State led by the families have resolved to take possession of their beloved departed son’s mortal remains and to proceed to continue the Final Funeral Rites and burial on 29th and 30th January 2021 at the Anlo State as tradition demands
