When Tracey’s father, Sam Cooke passed away, his widow Barbara Campbell (Tracey’s mother) married singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer Bobby Womack. Bobby was Barbara’s late husband Sam Cooke’s friend. They got married less than three months after Sam’s death. Barbara was 10 years Bobby’s senior.

At the time, Bobby was under 21 and didn’t have his parent’s permission to get married so he and Barbara’s wedding was initially rejected. However, they were able to marry the day after Bobby’s 21st birthday. Barbara and Bobby had a son Vincent Dwayne Womack, who committed suicide at the age of 21 by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Barbara and Bobby were married until Barbara found out that Bobby was cheating on her with her own daughter (Bobby’s stepdaughter) Linda Womack. Linda was just 17 years old at the time. Barbara fired a gun at Bobby and the bullet grazed his head. Barbara and Bobby’s divorce was finalized in 1971.

According to Bobby, Linda never spoke to her mother again. Linda, now known as Zeriiya Zekkariyas later married Bobby’s brother Cecil Womack and they make up ‘Womack & Womack‘.
