Thérèse Dion was born Thérèse Tanguay on 20 March 1927, in Saint-Bernard-des-Lacs, Quebec. She is the daughter of Antoinette (née Sergerie) and Laureat Achille Tanguay. She was popularly known as Maman Dion. Thérèse didn’t disclose much about her early life.

Thérèse Dion was married to Adhémar-Charles Dion, a butcher. The pair were introduced to each other in 1944. According to sources, it was a reunion and Therese was asked to bring her violin along. As she played it, she stole glances at Adhémar. Adhemar played the accordion. Thérèse and Adhémar got attracted to each other.

Thérèse Dion and Adhémar Dion fell in love and soon began a relationship. Adhémar proposed to Thérèse and she accepted. They got married beautifully on the 20th of June 1945 at the Saint-Zephirin Church. Thérèse then took her husband’s surname. The couple welcomed 14 children during their marriage.

Thérèse Dion launched her own line of food products, Pâtés de Maman Dion. She was the host of a cooking show for TVA. She sponsored the Fondation Maman Dion which was founded in 2006, an educational foundation that provides school supplies, clothing, and eyewear to underprivileged children.

Thérèse Dion was a composer, known for Céline Dion: Ce n’était qu’un rêve (1981), 75e, elles se souviennent (2015) and Le match de la vie (1988). She and her husband Adhémar Dion remained married until Adhémar passed away. Adhémar died on 30 November 2003, in Sainte-Rose, Laval Region, Quebec, Canada, at the age of 80 years.

Celine Dion’s mother, Thérèse Dion died on January 17, 2020, in Montreal, Quebec of Alzheimer’s resulting in dementia. She was 92 years old when she died. Her daughter, Céline expressed her sadness on Twitter revealing that she is dedicating her show in Miami, Florida to her, adding that “I’ll sing to you with all of my heart.”
