Tenoch Huerta: Facts about The Black Panther Anti-hero

Tenoch Huerta is a Mexican actor and writer. He has appeared in a number of movies in Latin America and Spain, starring in both feature films and short films. He is one of the actors featured in Mónica Maristain’s book 30 Actors Made in Mexico. Tenoch Huerta portrayed a to-be-confirmed character in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

His father, a film buff, enrolled him in an acting course with María Elena Saldaña, and Huerta’s later studies were alongside Carlos Torres Torrija and Luis Felipe Tovar.

Career

As an actor, Tenoch Huerta made his acting debut as a minor character in the 2006 film Asi del precipicio.

In 2015, he played Carlos Mamami in the biographical disaster survival film The 33 (along with Antonio Banderas, James Brolin, and Juliette Binoche), Alejo in Camino (along with Zoe Bell, Nacho Vigalondo, Sheila Vand, and Kevin Pollak), and a Mexican man in the lift in the James Bond film Spectre (opposite Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Dave Bautista, and Ralph Fiennes).

In 2009, he played Li’l Mago, the leader of the Tapachula faction of the notorious Mara Salvatrucha gang, in Cary Joji Fukunaga’s film Sin nombre. He began playing Rafael Caro Quintero in Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico in 2018.

In 2021, he starred as Juan in The Forever Purge, the fifth installment of The Purge franchise, alongside his Narcos: Mexico co-star Alejandro Edda, as well as Ana de la Reguera, Josh Lucas, Cassidy Freeman, and Will Patton.

Tenoch Huerta was awarded the Best Actor at the Short Short Film Festival in Mexico City, for his performance in Alonso Ruizpalacios’ Café paraíso. Huerta has also received five nominations for the Ariel Award, winning for Best Actor for his role in Días de Gracia in 2012.

Is Tenoch Huerta Black Panther?

In November 2021, it was rumored that Narcos: Mexico Star Tenoch Huerta was to be leaving Mexico in favor of Wakanda. The rumors are reportedly true. Illuminerdi reports that the Mexican actor is taking on the role of Namor the Submariner in the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Black Panther II.

Tenoch Huerta’s character in Black Panther, Namor is the superhero son of an Atlantis princess and a mortal sea captain, for those who are unfamiliar with the plot. He is also a bad guy who was one of the comic’s first anti-heroes. The plot goes as follows: Namor is passionate about protecting his kingdom’s people but has a short temper.

He has mutant fighting abilities and is quick to attack those on land who he believes have wronged him or his people. Namor and his people in Atlantis have long been at odds with the kingdom of Wakanda in the comics, making this a natural storyline for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The majority of the Wakanda cast will return for the sequel, including director Ryan Coogler. Fans have long wondered if another film would be made following the death of lead actor Chadwick Boseman, who played Wakanda’s King T’Challa/Black Panther. Boseman died in August 2020, following a sudden and private bout with colon cancer. There will be no recasting.

The Wakanda franchise will also see some new faces as Ironheart played by Dominique Thorne. She will play a young lady who built a much more powerful version of the Ironman suit.

Thor Love and Thunder will also be introducing some new faces to MCU such as Akosia Basat who played The Panther goddess worshipped by the Wakandians.
