Robert Faris is a sociologist and the brother of American actress and podcaster Anna Kay Faris. Robert’s sister Anna rose to prominence for her work in comedic roles, particularly the lead part of Cindy Campbell in the Scary Movie film series (2000–2006). She is one of the most talented comedic actresses of her generation. She launched Unqualified, an advice podcast in 2015.

Robert ‘Bob’ Faris is the older brother of actress and podcaster Anna Faris. Robert’s date of birth is uncertain however, he is believed to have been born in the 1970s. His father’s name is Jack Faris and his mother’s name is Karen Faris. His father is a sociology professor while his mother is a special education teacher. Robert has been a Professor at the University of California, Davis since July 2019. He is a professor of sociology at UC Davis who studies the social networks of teens and young adults, both on social media and in person. He has “conducted two Emmy-winning research projects with Anderson Cooper 360, one focusing on bullying and the other on social media (#Being13).”
According to his LinkedIn account, Robert Faris’ “research shows how social problems like bullying, substance use and dating violence spread through network ties, and has been covered in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Harpers, The Atlantic, Slate, and Salon, among others.”
Robert Faris’ website has it that, he has used social network analysis to figure out why teens bully each other, drink and do drugs, and engage in dating violence. He has been doing this for the past two decades. Most of his research is “based on the Context Study, a panel survey of North Carolina teenagers collected between 2003 and 2007.”
Robert Faris and his colleagues received an “NIH grant to fund the NC Life Study, which will collect new data from the original Context participants, now in their early 30’s, in order to better understand how experiences of adolescence shape adult health and well-being. The focus of the study is to understand the long-term consequences of encounters with structural, institutional, and interpersonal racism.”
Robert Faris has appeared as himself on “Anderson Cooper 360°”, “Top Chef”, “#BeingThirteen: Inside the Secret World of Teens”, and “The Beat with Ari Melber”.
