Peter Dench was born in 1925 in Tyldesley, United Kingdom. He was the son of Reginald Arthur Dench, a physician, and Eleanora Olive Jones, a native of Dublin, and also the brother of Jeffery Dench and actress Judi Dench. Peter was the oldest of the three children.

He was educated at St Peter’s School, York, where his sister was first drawn to act while watching him and his brother perform in a school play, Anthony and Cleopatra. Their father was the GP for York Theatre Royal, and her mother was its wardrobe mistress. This gave them regular contact with the theatre.
Peter Dench was a Medical Practitioner
The Oscar nominee has said she was inspired to pursue an acting career act while watching the pair perform in the school play when they were younger. Peter chose to follow in his father’s footsteps and work in medicine. He studied medicine at Cambridge before serving as a doctor for the Green Howards during National Service but always admired his sister’s stage, TV, and film career.
He was said to be one of the first medics ever to use a military helicopter while the army was dealing with the Malayan conflict, Daily Mail reported. Judi Dench’s brother also served for many years as a doctor in the Territorial Army, as a Colonel in the 250 Field Ambulance based at Hull, and would go away with the TA for a fortnight each year.

Peter Dench lived to see his famous sister at the National Railway Museum in York last autumn, playing Queen Victoria in a scene for a new film, Victoria and Abdul. When Peter retired, he decided to work as a guide at York Minster. His family told Daily Mail he had vowed never to take another exam after qualifying as a doctor, but had to take one to become a guide.

Judi Dench’s brother was married to his wife Daphne, a French refugee living in York, six months before he went to Malaya and they spent three years apart. The couple were the parents of two wonderful children- Simon and Louise. Peter’s wife Daphne died in 2013 after 63 years of ‘extremely happy’ marriage, they said.

What happened to Judi Dench’s brother?
Peter Dench passed away in January 2017. He was 91 years old at the time of his death. Peter’s son Simon said his father was always really close to his aunt Dame Judi and had been ‘immensely proud’ of her acting achievements, and also of his uncle Jeffrey, also a Shakespearean actor, who died in 2014.
Peter was the Queen’s guest at Buckingham Palace in her 1977 Silver Jubilee Year to receive the Territorial Decoration, awarded for long service. His children said he had remained fit and active until very recently, walking on Sandsend beach, near Whitby, on New Year’s Day. According to the Daily Mail, his funeral took place at York Crematorium on February 3, 2017.
