He is the only son of his parents, Vasily Petrovich Mironoff (1913–1980), and Kathleen “Kitty” Alexandrina Eva Matilda (née Rogers; 1908–1996). His mother was a working-class woman from West Ham, the thirteenth of fourteen children born to a butcher.
