He was a member of an exiled family of the Russian nobility. At the time he was two years old, his father Pyotr took him and the rest of his family to England.
The family includes Basil Mirren’s mother Maria and his siblings Irina, and Olga. The family reportedly had to remain in England by force when, in 1917, the Russian Revolution broke out. Pyotr was the owner of a family estate close to Gzhatsk (now Gagarin). He was part of the Russian aristocracy.
