Who Is Norton Cuban?

Norton Cuban was an automobile upholsterer. He was born on April 8th, 1926. His parents are Morris Cuban (1892-1955) and Fannie Janoff (1897-1977), per sources. His father changed the surname from “Chabenisky” to “Cuban” after his family emigrated from Russia through Ellis Island.

There isn’t much information about his early days but he was one of three siblings. Norton Cuban was married to Shirley Cuban. Shirley has been described as someone with “a different job or different career goal every other week.”

Norton Cuban and Shirley are the parents of Mark Cuban, Brian Cuban, and Jeffrey Cuban. Their children are all successful. Norton Cuban and Shirley Cuban raised their three boys Mark, Brian, and Jeff in the Pittsburgh suburb of Mount Lebanon.

The family moved to Dallas shortly after Mark Cuban purchased the Dallas Mavericks. Mark bought a majority stake in Dallas Mavericks on January 4, 2000. Norton Cuban enjoyed Mavericks games and the social scene in Dallas.

Norton Cuban was proud of being the patriarch of a high-profile family but he lived his life away from the spotlight. Norton and his wife Shirley allegedly got separated. All of Norton Cuban’s children are also proud to have him as their father.

Mark Cuban has credited his father for his success and revealed that he learned his greatest life lesson from him. He made this known during a speech at South by Southwest in 2014.

Mark Cuban said: “My dad is 87; he’s going strong, he’s a machine. My dad says it over and over, ‘Today’s the youngest you’re ever going to be. You’ve got to live like it. You’ve got to live young every day.’ And that’s what I try to do.”

Brian Cuban mentioned that his father was not college educated but he made sure his three sons graduate from college.

Brian Cuban recalled: “He would stress, ‘No matter where you go in life, no matter what happens, you three take care of each other. You call your brother. You tell your brother you love him. And you make sure your brothers are OK’ “

“He understood the value of the love of brothers, the bond of family. That was truly a gift that he passed down to us.

What Happened To Mark Cuban’s Father?

Mark Cuban’s father Norton Cuban died July 10th, 2018, at age 92, in Dallas. What killed him was not immediately disclosed but it was said that he had “failing health.” His health was declining. His son Brian told The News that Norton’s heart simply gave out.

Brian Cuban said: “Everyone he met was his friend. He was charismatic. He took life as it came and he always had a smile. He was just a very loving, caring person. And he absolutely lived for his sons. . . Literally, everything he did was for us. That continued up until the last moment.”

Per reports, the family held a private service. Brian said, “I’m glad there is a public celebration of my dad’s life. This is his obit. I’m glad there is a public celebration because I want people to know what a wonderful, loving, caring person my father was.

“When Mark hit it big, my dad traveled the world. And you know what? If there was anyone who earned that right, it was my father.” Brian said he is proud that his father got to see him emerge from drug and alcohol addiction and depression.
