Comedian John Cleese has suggested his difficult relationship with his “tyrant” mother was to blame for his years of therapy and problems with women. The Monty Python star said his mother Muriel had “utterly egotistical impulses” and he lacked any affection for her during his childhood.
The comedian also told The Telegraph– “My parents had been married for 13 years when I came along. Mum used to introduce me with the words, ‘This is my son, John. He was an accident.” He continued -“When I shared my worries with Dad during Sunday evening walks we’d hold hands. I don’t remember holding hands with Mum. I’m sure we did, but she’d say things like, ‘You mustn’t kiss me on the lips, it spreads germs.“
He told the Outlet,- “Dad looked after me a little too much, to compensate for my mother, who wasn’t emotionally available, and was always anxious and had a terrible temper.“

In an extract of his autobiography, he wrote: “It cannot be a coincidence that I spent such a large part of my life in some form of therapy and that the vast majority of the problems I was dealing with involved relationships with women.
