Maureen McGuire Is A Yoga Instructor

Maureen McGuire who was a dancer early in her life, is a yoga instructor. She works as a yoga instructor in East Haven, Connecticut, where she moved to in the 1990s and had planned on staying for a short time. “When I came back, a friend had said the Town of East Haven was looking for a fitness instructor,” Maureen said. “I got in touch with [Recreation Director] Lou Pane, who has been nothing but supportive the whole time.”

Maureen McGuire has been teaching fitness and yoga classes for many years. She focussed on aerobics and dance classes but often ended her classes with a short yoga session. She shared that “people started asking for full classes.” She was asked to teach at Yale University, prompting her to get her certification. She teaches yoga at the Payne Whitney Gym and her classes have drawn over 150 students.

Maureen McGuire teaches at East Shore Senior Center. “Teaching is my passion,” Maureen revealed. “That’s the power of yoga—to bring people back.” She is a part-time adjunct faculty member for Quinnipiac University’s physical education department where she teaches six classes a week in yoga and cardio conditioning for both students and staff. She has also been involved in volunteer work.

Maureen McGuire had a yoga studio in New Haven that she opened to the homeless. She does her yoga for donation on the beach. She and her students have collected food for the East Haven Food Pantry, coats and clothes for those in need, and funds for various causes.
