Bob Barker’s mother Matilda Kent Tarleton was born on 18 October 1897 in New York, USA. Robert Eckler Tarleton and Mary Elizabeth Kent Tarleton are the names of her parents. She lived a confidential life and kept most of her information from the spotlight. She was employed as a tutor. Matilda Kent Tarleton was a school teacher during her working days. She was a school teacher and later superintendent of schools for Todd Co SD, Rosebud Indian Reservation, per sources.
She is the author of “Our State”, a history of South Dakota for 6th graders. Matilda met and eventually got married to Byron John Barker. Her husband Byron was employed as the foreman on the electrical high line through the state of Washington. He was one-quarter Sioux. Matilda and Byron John Barker produced a son out of their union. Their son Robert William Barker was born on December 12, 1923. Robert mostly goes by the name Bob Barker.

Bob was born in Darrington, Washington, U.S. but he was on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Mission, South Dakota during most of his youth. Matilda’s husband Byron John Barker died at the age of 42, in a work-related accident. Byron fell from a utility pole and died from his injuries.
After Byron’s death, Matilda moved on and remarried. She married Louis Valandra, who was reportedly self-employed. Matilda became Matilda Valandra. She and Louis became parents of a son, Kent Valandra.

How Did She Die?
Matilda Kent Tarleton died on 26 February 1989, in Los Angeles County, California, USA. She was 91 years old when she passed away. The cause of her death is unknown. Her husband Louis Valandra died on 6 September 1957, in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri, USA, at age 59.
Meanwhile, Matilda Kent Tarleton’s son Bob Barker is still alive. He has battled some health problems and undergone surgeries as well. He was admitted to George Washington University Hospital and diagnosed with a partially blocked left carotid artery.

Bob Barker underwent carotid endarterectomy to remove the blockage, which was successful. He also had a stroke and was hospitalized. He underwent successful prostate surgery. Bob Barker also slipped and hit his head at home. He was hospitalized for severe back pain. However, he seems to be doing better at the moment.
