She had at least 2 sons and 2 daughters with her husband, Edward Teach aka Blackbeard. She died in Edenton, Chowan, North Carolina, United States. She died at the age of 57 years old.

She was notable for her marriage to Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard. She was married by Royal Governor Charles Eden in Bath, North Carolina, at about the age of sixteen years. The wedding was attended by Tobias Knight, the Royal Secretary for North Carolina, who was Teach’s neighbor.

Mary Ormond was the daughter of William Ormand, a plantation owner from Bath in Somerset. It is believed Blackbeard offered her as a gift to the crew of his ship Queen Anne’s Revenge, although her ultimate fate is undocumented.

The life of Blackbeard has been a focal point of many historians, and all of them agree that even though there were stories about women in the life of this famous pirate captain, he married only once.

After losing his prized possession, the famous ship “Queen Anne’s Revenge,” Mary Ormond’s husband traveled to Bath, North Carolina, and petitioned local Governor Charles Eden for a Royal Pardon. The wealthy Edward Teach decided to buy a house and marry to demonstrate that he was fully intending to give up his life at sea.

By that point in his life, it was said that he had 13 wives, none of whom had documentation or other historical data. Mary Ormond is believed to be her 14th wife.

Many people would have been shocked to learn that the notorious pirate Blackbeard had legally married someone. Charles Eden, the governor of North Carolina, officiated at the wedding. The governor most likely wanted to ensure that Blackbeard wasn’t lying when he said he’d be a good, productive member of society.

And so it was that Blackbeard married his only legal wife in 1718 in Bath, North Carolina, said Owlcation. Mary Ormond was supposedly pregnant either during or soon after the wedding, although there are no records of her giving birth. On the other hand, record-keeping in those days was less than thorough.

To no one’s surprise, a few months after the wedding, Blackbeard started thinking about going back to the sea. He took up piracy once more and began going on small raids, bringing his loot back to the home he shared with Ormond. North Carolina authorities heard that Blackbeard started thieving again, and the pirate decided to leave Bath altogether. Blackbeard returned to piracy full-time. He was operating in the coastal waters off North Carolina when Lieutenant Robert

Blackbeard’s good fortune eventually ran out. In 1718, he and his pirate crew anchored off the coast of North Carolina on Ocracoke Island. Maynard’s and the Royal Navy’s boats waited for the perfect moment. Maynard launched a surprise attack with his ships, killing Blackbeard in the ensuing battle. During the final battle, he was shot five times and stabbed more than 20 times, according to reports. There are stories that Blackbeard refused to use violence when Maynard and his men arrived, but there is no real evidence for this.
