Kristi Piccolo’s Parents Were Married Until Her Father Died
Kristi Piccolo’s parents Brian Piccolo and Joy Murrath were high school sweethearts who got married on December 26, 1964, in a pleasant ceremony in front of their loved ones. Their marriage was blessed with three beautiful daughters: Kristi and her sisters, Lori and Traci.
Brian Piccolo and his wife Joy Murrath were crazy about each other. Their marriage certainly had its share of ups and downs yet they remained in love. They were married until Brian’s death separated them. Unfortunately, he died at age 26, on June 16, 1970, in New York, New York, U.S.
Brian Piccolo was killed by embryonal cell carcinoma, an aggressive form of germ cell testicular cancer, first diagnosed after it had spread to his chest cavity. After his death, the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund was founded. The Chicago Bears honored him by retiring his jersey number 41.
Brian Piccolo Sports Park and Velodrome in Cooper City, Florida, a Fort Lauderdale suburb, is named for Brian. He was buried at Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery in Evergreen Park, Illinois. Kristi Piccolo said of her father:
“If I don’t physically have him, it means so much to be able to think about him and be reminded about him. It happens a lot and it’s very special. I didn’t know him in the way that so many people did. But I think he would be so honored and humbled to think that this is still happening after all those years, and even today seeing all those 41s out there, I can’t imagine what he would have thought.”

According to a source, three years after Brian Piccolo passed away, his widow Joy Murrath found love and remarried. Joy Murrath married Rich O’Connell, the son of a Chicago cop. Joy and Rich are said to have married somewhere in 1973. Rich made his livelihood in the ready-mix concrete business.
Joy goes by the name Joy Piccolo O’Connell. She and her husband Richard O’Connell are the parents of two sons, Tom O’Connell and Mike O’Connell. Joy has been actively involved in various charities.
