Per sources, Kalman operated a Seinfeld boutique which is a luxury boutique. He served in the Army for years during World War II and collected jokes that he heard while serving in War.
Kálmán was an entrepreneur. He was a sign painter and owner of a sign business. He had his own business, Kal Signfeld Sign Co. He later retired and reportedly sold his business. He was active at Temple Beth Solomon in Amityville, per sources.

Kálmán drove his van around town with a sign announcing his son Jerry’s first appearance on the “Tonight Show.” He also took out an advertisement in a local newspaper saying his son “dared to dream the impossible dream”.
Kálmán later told his son “It has nothing to do with you being my son. I just happen to enjoy your work.” Kálmán lived in Massapequa for several years.
