Jonah Frank King’s Parents- Dana Bash and John King

On April 28, 2023, Dana Bash was confirmed as the replacement for John King to host Inside Politics on CNN while he embarked on a new project dealing with election politics. Bash welcomed the news saying- “John built an extraordinary show that has attracted a loyal audience of political junkies, and I am looking forward to leading its next chapter.“

The Los Angeles Times while reporting the news referred to Bash as King’s ex-wife. She shared a post on Twitter criticizing the publication by adding a screenshot of the news piece and wrote:

“Hey @latimes – yes John and I used to be married. We are now friends and share a wonderful son together. In this context I am not an ‘ex wife,’ I am a veteran journalist with decades of experience who worked hard for this role. Do better please.”

The publication immediately made the necessary edits to the article. Jonah’s mother is a news anchor who has risen to the top of the worldwide newsroom hierarchy. Bash interned at NBC, CBS, and CNN while earning her undergraduate degree. She joined the CNN network in 1993 after graduating from college, and one of her first jobs in the organization was as a library assistant.

Dana grew her career at the network, rising to the position of editor at the Washington Bureau. In this role, she was instrumental in the planning and coordination of Capitol Hill coverage. Among some of the issues, she covered included Medicare and Social Security.

Jonah Frank King’s father John King was born in the city of Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States. His forefathers were from Dn Locháin, Co. Galway, and he is of Irish heritage which means his son Jonah Frank King King also has an Irish heritage. He went to Boston Latin School and graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

John King was previously married to Jean Makie and they were parents to two children, Noah and Hannah.

In 1997, King joined CNN as a senior White House reporter, a position he held from 1999 until 2005. King was designated CNN’s top national reporter in 2005, and he currently retains that post.

From 2014 until 2021, he hosted the Sunday morning news show Inside Politics, which featured a rotating panel of journalists who discussed their perspectives on current political issues with King.
