John Charles Martin Nash is the son of American mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr. and his wife Salvadoran-American physicist and mental-health care advocate Alicia Nash. John Charles’ parents are both well-known and successful in their careers. His father the late John Forbes Nash Jr, was a great mathematician who made fundamental contributions to game theory, real algebraic geometry, differential geometry, and partial differential equations.

His mother Alicia was a naturalized U.S. citizen from El Salvador. His father was born in Bluefield, West Virginia.

Johnny has a half-brother called John David Stier. John David Stier was born from Johnny’s father John Forbes Nash Jr’s relationship with Eleanor Stier, who was a nurse. At the time Eleanor was pregnant with John David Stier, John Forbes Nash Jr abandoned them.

John Forbes Nash Jr left Eleanor and the unborn child because of Eleanor’s social status, which he thought was beneath his. They were never married. Per some sources, John Forbes Nash Jr occasionally visits his son, John David Stier, when he was a baby.

It was after John Forbes Nash Jr broke up with Eleanor that he met Johnny’s mother Alicia Nash. Johnny’s parents were married in February 1957. Johnny’s father John Forbes Nash Jr was an atheist but his wedding to Alicia Nash was performed in an Episcopal church.

Johnny’s father had a mental illness and the first signs of his illness became evident before Johnny was born. Johnny’s father was committed to a mental hospital. After Johnny was welcomed into the world, he was not named for about a year because his mother wanted his father to have a say in deciding the name for Johnny.

The stress of dealing with Johnny’s father’s illness broke his parents’ marriage. Johnny’s parents got divorced in 1963. However, during the 1990s, his parents reconciled. They remarried in 2001 and stayed together until their death.

Johnny’s paternal grandparents are John Forbes Nash Sr., an electrical engineer for the Appalachian Electric Power Company, and Margaret Virginia (née Martin) Nash, a schoolteacher. His maternal grandparents are Alicia de Lardé and Carlos de Lardé, a doctor.

John Forbes Nash Jr’s son John Charles Martin Nash aka Johnny suffered from schizophrenia. He suffered the same illness as his father. Like his father, he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Johnny’s mother Alicia Nash gave up her professional aspirations to support her husband and son.

During high school, Johnny experience delusions and heard voices. He was reportedly hospitalized at the Carrier Clinic, where his father was also hospitalized. Johnny was unable to graduate from high school or college, according to sources.

Meanwhile, Johnny was an excellent student and despite his illness, he was brilliant. Johnny had remarkable talents in mathematics, just like his father. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in the subject at Rutgers University. He became a mathematician.

Tragic Death Of His Parents

John Charles Martin Nash’s beloved parents John Forbes Nash Jr. and Alicia Nash were killed in a car crash. The couple died on May 23, 2015, in an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike near Exit 8A in Monroe Township, NJ.

The husband and wife were heading home after a visit to Norway, where John Forbes Nash Jr had received the Abel Prize. They picked a taxicab and the driver is identified as Tarek Girgis. Tarek Girgis lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail.

Both passengers were ejected and killed upon impact. At the time the car crashed, neither passenger had a seatbelt on. They were pronounced dead on the scene. John Forbes Nash Jr died at the age of 86 while his wife Alicia Nash died at the age of 82.

A biography of John Forbes Nash Jr, dubbed A Beautiful Mind, by journalist Sylvia Nasar was published in 1998.

John Charles Martin Nash has stayed out of the limelight. He hardly appears in the news and doesn’t often appear at public events. He continues to receive treatment for his illness. He is reportedly living in a small home near Princeton University where he passes his time playing chess.
