Johannah “Jay” Poulston was born on 25 March 1973, in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. Leonard Poulston is the name of her father and her mother’s name is Jen Poulston. Louis was born Louis Troy Austin on 24 December 1991, in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. At the time Johannah gave birth to Louis, she was 18 years old. Johannah Deakin and her husband Daniel Deakin remained married until Johannah passed away. Johannah and her son Louis Tomlinson were very close to each other. Louis even told his mother when he lost his virginity. He recalled: “I remember the day I lost my virginity. I hadn’t even told any of my mates and I was, like: ‘Mum? I know this is really weird. But I’ve got to tell you…’ I remember thinking this is a bizarre conversation to be having with your mother. But it’s testament to how comfortable she made me.”
How Did Louis Tomlinson’s Mother Die?
Johannah Deakin died from leukemia on 7 December 2016, at age 43. “It is with immeasurable sadness that Johannah Deakin’s family said goodbye to Johannah in the early hours of Wednesday, Dec. 7,” the family said in a statement. “Earlier this year Johannah was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia that required immediate and continuous treatment. We respectfully request that the family are given time and space to grieve in private.”
Johannah’s husband Dan Deakin said in a statement: “Johannah was first and foremost a truly amazing mother to seven children – Louis, Lottie, Félicité, and two sets of twins, Phoebe and Daisy and Ernest and Doris — whose individual talents and success are testament to the principles and beliefs she instilled in them. She was also an incredibly proud grandmother to [Louis’ son] Freddie.”
“Incredibly selfless, she would always look to put other people before herself,” Dan continued. “She desired nothing more than for everyone around her to be happy and loving. She worked tirelessly on numerous charity campaigns, creating memories for many individuals and their families.”
“It wasn’t uncommon for Johannah to hear through the media of an individual in need of assistance, and she would immediately make it her objective to get that person what they often desperately needed, and rarely without success. These are the things that made Johannah happy and content in life, and all of which for me made her simply the perfect wife and best friend to face each day with.”
“I thoroughly loved walking through life with her, and though five years was far too short a time, during that time we had so many lifetimes worth of happiness, adventures, and memories. We would like to send our sincere thanks to Professor Steve Mackinnon and his team at University College London Hospital where Johannah was hospitalized since May. And during the last few weeks Professor John Snowden and his colleagues at Royal Hallamshire Hospital Sheffield.”

Johannah Deakin’s Louis Tomlinson told the Guardian about the moment he found out his mother was terminally ill. He said: “At Jamie Vardy’s wedding of all places. Talk about your places, for something super-traumatic. My mum told me, uh, yeah, that she was definitely terminal.” At the time Johannah passed away, her son Louis was just days away from appearing on The X Factor.
“I remember saying to her: ‘Mum, how the fuck do you expect me to do this now?’, Louis Tomlinson said. “And she didn’t swear much, my mum. She’d always tell me off for swearing. And this time she was like: ‘You’ve got to fucking do it, it’s as simple as that.’ It was football manager, team talk stuff.’”
