Steve Harvey’s father Jesse Harvey was a coal miner. He was born on 6 December 1914, in Bessemer, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA, per Findagrave has it that at the time Jesse was born, his father, John Harvey, was 32 and his mother, Clara Simon, was 29. There isn’t much information about Jesse’s early life and family history.

His teacher collected all the papers and mentioned the names of the student and tells the class what they wrote on the paper. When it got to Steve, the teacher asked him to come forward.

The teacher asked Steve Harvey what he wrote on the paper and he said he wants to be on tv. The teacher asked why he wrote that and Steve answered that, that was the assignment for the day. The teacher asked if he knew anybody on tv and he said no. The teacher reported Steve to his mother after she pinned the paper on his uniform.

Steve Harvey’s father, Jesse Harvey died at the age of 85, on 7 April 2000, in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, USA. He was buried at Lake View Cemetery, in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, USA. He was killed by black lung disease, per a source. Also, other sources have it that his death was natural. His wife Eloise Harvey died of a stroke at the age of 83, in the year 1997.
