He may be one of the popular and Hollywood’s finest entertainers but he is also a son.

Gary Burghoff was born on May 24, 1943, in Bristol, Connecticut, U.S. He was born with a condition called Poland syndrome. His left hand had 3 fingers that were significantly smaller than those on his right hand. He is the son of the late Rodney Burghoff and Ann Burghoff. Gary is not the only child of Rodney and Ann. He has a brother called David Burghoff.

Rodney Burghoff also known as Louis Rodney Burghoff is the man who is the father of Gary Burghoff. Rodney was welcomed into the world on the 17th of April 1910, in Cheshire, New Haven County, Connecticut, USA. He was the son of Louis L. and Eliza (Pierce) Burghoff. He worked for a clock company. He was a former plant superintendent of the E. Ingraham Co.

Rodney served as vice president of manufacturing and manager of special products for Amphenol Borg Clock Division in Delavan, Wis. He was a director of the. E. ‘Ingraham Co. during his employment and received a U.S. Presidential Award. He was a director of the Federal Savings & Loan Association in the 1950s, and a member of the board of directors of the Bristol Boy’s Club from 1947 to 1959.

Rodney Burghoff was chairman of the Forestville Boys’ Club during 195S and 1956. He was a past president of the Senior Members Association of the Forestville Boys’ Club and was committee chairman of a successful fund-raising campaign for the club. He was a former member of the Bristol Exchange Club and a 32nd-degree Mason of Franklin Lodge 56, AF&AM.

Gary Burghoff’s mother, Ann Burghoff was born on 13 June 1912, in Bristol, Hartford County, Connecticut, USA. Ann was a professional dancer and directed local theater productions. During the 1940s and ’50s, she was recognized for her arts and crafts. She was also known for her work at the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs in Bristol. She directed the Bristol Boys’ Club Older Members shows.

Ann Burghoff was the director of the play in which her son Gary, then 5 years old, made his entertainment debut by singing “Petunia in an Onion Patch.” She was involved in fund-raising for the Girls’ Club and other Bristol organizations. She taught dance at her own studio in Bristol. She attended local schools in Bristol and graduated from the University of Hartford.

Ann enjoyed working with different arts and crafts including flower arranging, decoupage, ceramics, and Christmas decorations, earning local and state awards for her work. She was a past president of the Bristol Quota Club, 1948-49. At one point in her life, she was the owner of a gift shop.
