She lived in Swarthmore for about 18 years and was a graduate of the Class of 1940 at Swarthmore High School, where she was an outstanding athlete and captain of the lacrosse and hockey teams in her senior year.
Elizabeth MacDonald Martin, 66, formerly of Swarthmore, passed away on July 7, 1989, at her home in San Francisco, San Francisco County, California. Funeral services were held in California. After her body was cremated, the ashes were scattered over the San Francisco Bay. Although Elizabeth Anne McDonald was cremated, there is a findagrave memorial in her honor.

Elizabeth Anne McDonald’s husband, Martin, a heavy smoker, was diagnosed with lung cancer at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in September 1993, and was told that he would require surgery to prolong his life, but he rejected it. Elizabeth Anne McDonald’s husband Dean retired from public life in early 1995 and died of acute respiratory failure resulting from emphysema at his Beverly Hills home on Christmas Day, 1995, at age 78, twenty-nine years to the day, and almost to the minute, after his mother died. The lights of the Las Vegas Strip were dimmed in his honor. Martin was interred at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles. The crypt features the epitaph “Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime”, the title of his signature song.
