Dennis Page was married to Martha Philpotts, a teacher. Much information about their marriage has not been provided. He and Martha who are the parents of Elliot Page, got divorced when Elliot was a toddler. Growing up, Elliot split his time between the homes of his mother and father. Dennis and Martha were supportive of her two passions: acting and soccer.

Reportedly, at the age of 19 years, Elliot Page informed his parents that was attracted to girls. Dennis Page and Martha Philpotts were not pleased with the information. Martha resisted Elliot’s identity while Dennis grew distant. Elliot has written about his strained relationship with his father Dennis Page in his memoir, ‘Page Boy’.

In his memoir, Elliot made it known that he and his estranged father hadn’t communicated for more than five years and probably won’t speak to him again. Elliot claims his father Dennis Page engages with “those with massive platforms who have attacked and ridiculed me on a global scale”

It is not known if Elliot and his father have reconciled but he has reconciled with his mother, Martha, a minister’s daughter. His mother wasn’t supportive when he came out as gay initially. Elliot’s mother, Martha Philpotts is said to have once told Elliot that homosexuality didn’t exist. However, Elliot said his mother seems almost relieved since he came out as trans.

Dennis’ Daughter Came Out As Gay In 2014

On February 14, 2014, Dennis Page’s child Elliot Page who was born a female, came out as gay. She announced this during a speech at the Human Rights Campaign’s “Time to Thrive” conference in Las Vegas. Elliot mentioned that she was tired of living a lie, pretending to be straight, or at least “lying by omission” as he says. Elliot said: “I’m here today because I’m gay, and because maybe I can make a difference.”

Elliot Page added: “I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility. I also do it selfishly, because I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission. I suffered for years because I was afraid to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. And I’m standing here today with all of you on the other side of that pain.”

Elliot Page also admitted that he tried “not to read gossip, as a rule. But the other day a website ran an article with a picture of me wearing sweatpants on the way to the gym. And the writer asked: ‘Why does this petite beauty insist upon dressing like a massive man?’ Because I like to be comfortable.”

“There are pervasive stereotypes about masculinity and femininity that define how we are all supposed to act, dress and speak and they serve nobody. Anybody who defies these so-called norms becomes worthy of comment and scrutiny. The LGBT community knows this all too well.”

Elliot Page told The Guardian: “I felt, let’s just please be done with this chapter of discomfort and sadness and anxiety, and hurting my relationships, and all those things that come with it.” Elliot also said: “I felt guilty for not being a visible person for the community, and for having the privilege that I had and not using it.”

“I had got to the point where I was telling myself, you know, you should feel guilty about this. I was an active participant in an element of Hollywood that is gross. I would never judge somebody else for not coming out, but for me, personally, it did start to feel like a moral imperative.”

Dennis’ Child Came Out As A Trans Man And Changed His Name

Elliot Page came out as a trans man on December 1, 2020, on social media. He announced that his pronouns are he/they, revealing his new name, Elliot as well. He wrote: “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.

“I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society”.

“I also ask for patience. My joy is real, but it is also fragile. The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared. I’m scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the ‘jokes’ and of violence. To be clear, I am not trying to dampen a moment that is joyous and one that I celebrate, but I want to address the full picture. The statistics are staggering.”

“The discrimination towards trans people is rife, insidious and cruel, resulting in horrific consequences. In 2020 alone it has been reported that at least 40 transgender people have been murdered, the majority of which were Black and Latinx trans women. To the political leaders who work to criminalize trans health care and deny our right to exist and to all of those with a massive platform who continue to spew hostility towards the trans community: you have blood on your hands.”

“You unleash a fury of vile and demeaning rage that lands on the shoulders of the trans community, a community in which 40% of trans adults report attempting suicide. Enough is enough. You aren’t being ‘cancelled’, you are hurting people. I am one of those people and we won’t be silent in the face of your attacks.”

“I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive. To all the trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse, and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you, and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better”. Elliot Page became the first openly trans man to appear on the cover of Time.
