Who Is Charles Larkey?

Charles Larkey is the second out of the four men singer-songwriter Carole King has been married to. Charles and Carole got married after Carole got divorced from American lyricist Gerald Goffin. After the divorce from Gerald, Carole moved to Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles.

Carole King moved with her two girls, Louise Goffin and Sherry Goffin, from her marriage to Gerry Goffin. She began her recording career and came up with a music trio called “The City”. The group included Charles Larkey, who will go on to become Carole’s husband.

​ Larkey was on bass, and the other members: Danny Kortchmar on guitar and vocals and Carole King on piano and vocals. The group produced one album in 1968, Now That Everything’s Been Said. The album was not a commercial success. The City disbanded in 1969.

Charles Larkey played bass guitar on some of Carole’s recordings in the 1970s. Charles and Danny Kortchmar reunited in the band Jo Mama. Charles joined The Fugs in late 1967. He was a member of The Myddle Class. Initially, Chris Irby played bass guitar in the band.

Chris Irby was replaced by Charles Larkey after he decided to quit. Mike Rosa, drummer of the band recommended Charles Larkey, who was a friend of his at Governor Livingston High School. At the time, Charles was learning the bass.

Charles Larkey had a good stage presence and dressed in all of the latest mod fashions from his father’s store Larkey’s in Newark. However, the band broke up. Charles anchored releases by The Fugs, The Doors sans Mojo, Paul Williams, Peter Allen, and B.J. Thomas among others.

Charles Larkey was in New Jersey during his early days. He may have enjoyed a luxurious childhood because his father was a businessman who owned a store Larkey’s in Newark. Other details about his early life, parents, siblings, and other relatives are unknown. He attended Governor Livington High School.

Bassist Charles Larkey was married to Carole King from 1970 until they divorced in 1976. They were married for less than a decade. Their marriage collapsed due to Charles’ commitment to his music career. She said: “Our situation, we split up because Charlie was really into playing music.

‘He loved playing music and playing in bands and that was not my scene’. She continued: “He got into that scene and hanging out, and hours, truly, it was hours. We loved each other. There was no other issue except that he was living the life of a musician and I was living the life of a domestic housewife, and ultimately it wasn’t working.”

They had two children before their split. Their children are Levi Larkey and Molly Larkey. Molly was born on December 31, 1971. Levi was born on April 23, 1974

Carole King’s ex-husband Charles Larkey is said to be living in Austin, Texas. It is unknown if he is currently married or not. He has stayed away from publicity and isn’t frequently in the news. He is believed to be alive and living a healthy life.
