Who is Ray Stevens’ daughter, Suzi Ragsdale?
Born on September 6, 1964, in Nashville, Tennessee, Suzi is 56 years old as of 2023. She followed in the footsteps of her famous father and started doing music at a very young age. Suzi at the age of 10 was singing on children’s albums, and at age 11, was singing on publishing demos for songwriters. She sang as part of the chorus on her father Ray Stevens’ song “Everything Is Beautiful.“
Aside from his father, Ray Stevens’ daughter also worked with artists such as Guy Clark, Pam Tillis, Suzy Bogguss, Randy Travis, and Ian Tyson. She provided background vocals. She also collaborated with Verlon Thompson from 1990 until 1999, recording two duet albums on their label VNS Records: Anything Goes (1993) and Out Of Our Hands (1995).
Suzi Ragsdale sang on Scott’s albums, and he also produced her first album. She released her first solo album Future Past in 1998. She went on to record two EPs: Best Regards (2009) and Less of the Same (2010). The two discs were also reissued in one set in 2010.
During the release of her CDs, Stevens sang along with his daughter and also presented her with a large bouquet, saying “Your mom made me, or I wouldn’t have done it.” She launched her Stark Raven/Clyde Records label in 2007. The singer had nothing but praise for his daughter’s new CD collection.
In an interview with The Boot, Suzi Ragsdale said although her father’s knowledge of the music business was helpful to her, being his daughter actually slowed down her career: “As far as growing up with him as dad, and falling in love with this business, he taught me a lot. But although it has been helpful and valuable to have that knowledge, it hasn’t opened doors with people wanting to give me a record deal.“
She continued- “Everyone is supportive in Nashville and kind of like a family of songwriters. But I sometimes feel that if I’d come into town from Texas 15 years ago, I might have got more attention than I did being from Nashville and sitting here with my dad. However, I’m very grateful for the life I’ve had; the advantages and inside track have been great.”
