Who Was Steven Tyler’s Father, Victor A. Tallarico?
Victor Alphonse Tallarico was born on 14 May 1916, in Manhattan, New York County, New York, USA to Giovanni Tallarico and Constance Neidhart. His father Giovanni was from Cotronei, Calabria, Italy. Both parents, Giovanni and Constance were musicians. Constance taught piano while Giovanni conducted and played saxophone and cello. He has a brother called Ernie Tallarico.
Victor was of Italian and German descent. He studied at Columbia University and the Julliard Conservatory. He became a classical musician and pianist. He taught music at the Foxwood School on Long Island, at Cardinal Spellman private high school in the Bronx, and gave private lessons as well. He had an interest in music from an early age.
Victor A. Tallarico’s musical career started early. He established himself as an accomplished pianist. He began playing professionally when he was 7 years old. Victor later played the ballrooms of the majestic old resort hotels of Sunapee – the Granliden, the Soo-Nipi, the Indian Cave Lodge, Twin Lake Villa, and the Lake Sunapee Yacht Club.
Victor worked alongside his brother. His brother Ernie played saxophone with him and the duo were accompanied by Stuffy Gregory and Ray Cavicchio. Even Victor’s son, Steven Tyler later joined the combo as drummer. Victor who was a World War II veteran is said to have played sousaphone in the Army Band.
Victor also played piano at civilian club dates on the weekends. Victor met and married Susan Ray (née Blancha; June 2, 1925 – July 4, 2008), a secretary. They had two children Lynda Tallarico and Steven Victor Tallarico best known as Steven Tyler. The couple divided their time between their Trow Hill home and the Hunt Community, a residential community in Nashua.
After the War, Victor A. Tallarico was offered an opportunity to join the Glenn Miller Band but he rejected the offer because of his family responsibilities. Victor played a series of concerts at the Methodist Church in Sunapee, which extended over many years. Originally, he played these accompanied by his mother, Constance.

Victor had a longtime engagement at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York where he played with a dance band on Saturday nights for 15 years. He and other members of his family operated Trow-Rico, a summer resort in Sunapee. Long into his retirement, Victor continued to play professionally. At 93, he was still giving concerts in Nashua at the Hunt Home and performing for a cocktail hour each week.

Victor said he considered his son Steven Tyler a “genius,” and said his favorite Aeorsmith song was the 1970 classic “Dream On.” He said of his son: “(He’s) number one in the rock field. There’s none like him. There will never be.”

Victor A. Tallarico died on 10 September 2011, at age 95, in Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA. “The gifts that he gave me during his life, and (to) others, will go on for another lifetime. He died living. He lived to a ripe 95,” his son Steven Tyler said. “I’m getting calls from hundreds of people that he’s touched by virtue of passing on his music, knowledge of music to others at school and the songs that he played for people.”

“He celebrated life in such a way that he’ll never die. I’m just grateful for what he passed on to me.” Victor was buried at Eastman Cemetery, Sunapee, Sullivan County, New Hampshire, USA. His wife Susan Blancha died in July 2008, at age 83, in Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA.
