Who Are Ted Turner’s Children?

Robert Edward Turner III best known as Ted Turner has been married and divorced three times. He is the father of five. He married Julia Gale Nye from June 23, 1960 to 1964. They had two children. He was also married to Jane Shirley Smith. His marriage to Shirley lasted from June 2, 1965, until they divorced in 1988. They had three children together.

Ted Turner’s third marriage was to American actress and activist Jane Fonda. This marriage lasted from December 21, 1991, until they divorced on May 22, 2001. They didn’t have any children together. Ted’s five children are Laura Turner Seydel, Rhett Turner, Jennie Turner, Reed Beauregard Turner, and Robert Edward Turner IV. His children are all adults now living their lives independently.

Laura Turner Seydel

Laura Turner Seydel also known as Laura Lee Turner is the daughter of Ted Turner and Julia Gale Nye. Laura is the chair of the Captain Planet Foundation and serves on the board of the Children & Nature Network, “which has the mission of helping all children to grow up realizing the many benefits that exposure to nature provides.”

Laura is the co-founder and serves as chair of Mothers and Others for Clean Air, which works to improve air quality for at-risk populations, especially children in the Southeast, according to sources. She also serves on the board of Project Drawdown, which focuses on measuring the top scalable solutions to address global warming.

Laura is a Patron of Nature for the International Union of the Conservation of Nature. She is married to her husband Rutherford Seydel with whom she co-founded the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, which strives to protect Georgia’s drinking water. She and Rutherford live in Atlanta with their children.

Robert Edward Turner IV

Son of Ted Turner and Julia Gale Nye, Robert Edward “Teddy” Turner IV was born in the United States of America. He teaches high school economics at the Charleston Collegiate School in Charleston, South Carolina, and serves on the board of the South Carolina Aquarium, the Children’s Museum of the Low Country, and the Jane Smith Turner Foundation.

Robert IV serves as Chairman of the Board of the South Carolina Maritime Foundation and was a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Mary’s College of Maryland. On January 23, 2013, Robert IV announced that he intended to run in the South Carolina Republican primary for the open Congressional seat vacated by Tim Scott who was appointed to the US Senate.

Robert IV came in 4th, receiving 7.90% of the vote. He is married to his wife Blair Turner and is the father of Selden Turner, Robert E. Turner, and Riley Turner.

Jennie Turner

Jennie Turner is the daughter of Ted Turner and Jane Shirley Smith. She is an Environmentalist. She has honed her environmental awareness as a Trustee of the Turner Foundation since 1990. For 12 years, she served on the board of directors for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and currently serves on the Advisory Board of the National Zoo.

Jennie served as an associate producer at CNN Environment Unit’s EARTH MATTERS from 1994 to 2001. She is the executive producer and host of EcoSense for Living. “EcoSense for Living” won an Ohio Valley regional Emmy Award in 2011. She is married to Peek and they have six children: Anna Easton, Martha Hope, Julius Peek, Jr., Sara Bailey, Haven McCoy, and Jane Grayson.

Beau Turner

Beau Turner is Ted Turner’s son from his marriage to Jane Shirley Smith. He is involved in several charitable organizations related to environmental conservation and preservation around the world. He is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Turner Endangered Species Fund and Director of Natural Resources and Biodiversity for Turner Enterprises, Inc.

Beau Turner “coordinates and oversees wildlife-related projects for the 2 million acre operation.” He serves as a Trustee of the Turner Foundation and serves on the boards of the Jane Smith Turner Foundation, the Captain Planet Foundation, and the Peregrine Fund. He is highly involved in Outdoor Youth Reports. He is the founder of the Beau Turner Youth Conservation Center (BTYCC).

Beau works closely with groups such as the National Wild Turkey Federation, Boone and Crockett Club, Ducks Unlimited, Tall Timbers Research Station, and Land Conservancy (an organization that promotes sound stewardship among land owners in the Red Hills region of Georgia and Florida). He is the father of a son, Beau Jr.

Rhett Turner

Rhett Turner is one of the children of Ted Turner and his now ex-wife Jane Shirley Smith. He is an avid outdoorsman, documentary filmmaker, and photographer. He is the president of Red Sky Productions. He is a devoted documentary filmmaker who has traveled to several places around the world to make documentaries and photographic essays.

Rhett has traveled to places like Libya, Yemen, India, Myanmar, Laos, Ethiopia, Russia, Antarctica, Greenland, and many other countries. His most recent photography anthology is Georgia County Courthouses: The Architecture of Living Monuments, which catalogs all of Georgia’s 159 courthouses. He has served as a camera operator, photographer, producer, and editor on several projects.
