Susie Nelson: Bio Summary

Susie Nelson was born on May 23, 1956, in the United States of America. She is the second child of  Willie Nelson and his first wife Martha Matthews. As of 2023, she is 67 years old. Aside from her two biological siblings-  Lana Nelson– an elder sister and Billy Nelson– a younger brother, she also has four half-siblings-  Amy Lee Nelson, Paula Nelson, Micah Nelson, Lukas Nelson, and Renee Nelson from her father’s other marriages.

What does Susie Nelson do?

The father of eight children has always been proud and supportive of each of his children and the choices that they make. Some of the On the road again hitmaker’s kids have followed in his footsteps. Paula, Amy, Lukas, Micah, and the late Billy have followed in their father’s footsteps. Susie Nelson on the other hand chooses a different path even though it is quite similar. At age 27, she returned to school to earn her high school diploma. She also spent a few years playing music and telling stories on Indigenous reservations in the U.S. and Canada (Willie reportedly has Cherokee ancestry). Though she played music, it wasn’t commercial like her father.

In 2012, she co-hosted Susie’s Gospel Hour with her dad on Willie’s Roadhouse, the singer’s SiriusXM channel.

Susie Nelson is a married woman

In 1987, she published Heart Worn Memories: A Daughter’s Personal Biography of Willie Nelson. Willie Nelson’s daughter recalled, he asked to read it before publication after hearing rumors that it was to be a “Daddy Dearest.” However, she recalled telling him- “It’s true, but it’s not a ‘Daddy Dearest.”

Susie Nelson didn’t doesn’t spare herself in the book, she randomly described her role in the Nelson family merry-go-round as that of a “snitch,” a “tattletale,” a “bitch,” a frequent troublemaker who, while only wanting to be closer to her father, was often unintentionally inconsiderate of him.

The same year she publish the book, the Orlando Sentinel reported that Susie had been divorced and widowed before marrying writer and editor Bob Rosenbaum, her mentor in the task of writing her book. It is unclear how many children she has.

She wouldn’t marry her father

Though she admires her father Susie Nelson will not marry him. “It’s real hard,” Susie told Orlandosentinel. “I wouldn’t marry him. I love him as my dad, but I wouldn’t marry him. That’s only because his life is not his own, and that makes you just a little part of his life because his world is so big.“

She also revealed can only remember her father spanked her only once but she didn’t cry but her father did. Susie narrated how she want sent to fetch her younger brother Billy but they decided to do things their own way and spend some time playing with other kids. “There was a country Texaco station up the hill behind our house where we liked to get sodas. One afternoon Billy had gone up for a soda. It was getting time for supper, so Dad sent me to get him. . . . Billy and I ran into some other kids and stayed out and played until after dark.“

Susie Nelson went on- “When we got home, Dad took us by the hands and marched us to the bedroom. ‘This is going to hurt me worse than it does you,’ he told us. . . . He spanked me first. I didn’t cry. Then he spanked Billy, who started crying. Then Dad started to cry. Billy looked up at him through his tears and said, ‘Don’t cry, Dad. It didn’t hurt very much. ” Her mother Martha Mathew passed away around Christmas 1989, and her younger brother Billy Nelson also passed away two years later in1991.
