Stephanie’s mother was a member of the vocal group the I Threes, along with Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt, who gained recognition as the backing vocalists for Bob Marley and the Wailers. At the age of 10 years, Bob Marley’s father died of a heart attack at the age of 70 and his mother married Edward Booker, a civil servant from the United States, giving Marley two half-brothers called Richard and Anthony.

Bob attended Stepney Primary and Junior High School. Bob Marley was raised as a Catholic but became interested in Rastafari beliefs in the 1960s. He returned to Jamaica and formally converted to Rastafari and began to grow dreadlocks. He was a member of the Rastafari movement for a while. Stephanie’s father Bob Marley started his professional musical career in 1963. He formed a vocal group with Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh. The group released its debut studio album The Wailing Wailers in 1965. The group became known internationally after signing to Island and touring in support of the albums Catch a Fire and Burnin’ (both 1973).

The father of Stephanie recorded four songs, “Judge Not”, “One Cup of Coffee”, “Do You Still Love Me?” and “Terror” in 1962. He recorded it at Federal Studios for local music producer Leslie Kong and three of the songs were released on Beverley’s with “One Cup of Coffee”, released under the pseudonym, Bobby Martell.

Bob Marley has several hit songs and has been ranked as one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated sales of over 75 million records worldwide. He was signed with CBS Records in London and embarked on a UK tour with soul singer Johnny Nash. He has served as a world ambassador for reggae music, earned induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and sold more than 20 million records.

Is Stephanie Marley’s Father Dead?

Yes Stephanie Marley’s father, Bob Marley is dead. He was diagnosed with a type of malignant melanoma under a toenail. He rejected his doctors’ advice to have his toe amputated and despite his illness, he still went on touring and was in the process of scheduling a 1980 world tour. He was battling cancer and his health deteriorated. His cancer had spread throughout his body.

Bob Marley died on 11 May 1981, aged 36, due to the spread of melanoma to his lungs and brain. He was given a state funeral in Jamaica on 21 May 1981. His funeral combined elements of Ethiopian Orthodoxy and Rastafari tradition. He was buried in a chapel near his birthplace with his guitar. Bob Marley may be dead but his legacy continues through his music and children.
