Sonia Barragan Perez is the wife of Amado Carrillo Fuentes. Sonia Barragan Perez’s husband Fuente was a Mexican drug lord who seized control of the Juárez Cartel after assassinating his boss Rafael Aguilar Guajardo. Amado Carrillo became known as “El Señor de Los Cielos”, because of the large fleet of jets he used to transport drugs. Though her husband Fuentes had a Wikipedia page, Sonia Barragan Perez on the other hand does not have a Wikipedia page yet.

Sonia Barragan Perez’s husband Fuentes died in July 1997 in a Mexican hospital after undergoing extensive plastic surgery to alter his appearance. 

Two of Carrillo Fuentes’ bodyguards were in the operating room at the time. On November 7 – four months after he died – the two physicians who carried out the surgical procedures were found entombed on concrete drums.

Much is not known about the year Perez and her husband Fuentes got married but it is known that the couple had three children at the time of his husband’s death. Sonia Barragan Perez rarely saw her husband because he rarely stayed in the same spot again. Apparently, she was with her husband during his death on that faithful day.

Everybody knows most drug dealers are stinky rich, so is the case of Barragan Perez’s husband. During his tenure, Carrillo Fuentes reportedly built a multibillion-dollar drug empire. It was estimated that he may have made over $25 billion in revenue over the course of his career.

Initially, Sonia Barragan Perez’s husband, Carrillo was a member of the Guadalajara Cartel, dispatched to Ojinaga, Chihuahua, to supervise his uncle, Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo (“Don Neto”) cocaine’s shipments and learn about border operations from Pablo Acosta Villarreal (“El Zorro de Ojinaga”; “The Ojinaga Fox”) and Rafael Aguilar Guajardo. Carrillo later smuggled cocaine from Colombia to Mexico and the United States alongside Pablo Escobar and the Cali Cartel. He also collaborated with “El Chapo” (Joaquin Guzman Loera), the Arellano Felix family, and the Beltran Leyva group.

Before Sonia Barragan Perez’s husband died, he had a Net worth of $25 Billion. In his hometown, Carrillo was given a massive, ornate, and expensive funeral. Governor Eduardo Bours requested that Carrillo’s residence in Hermosillo, Sonora, be demolished in 2006.

The Mexican Attorney-Office General’s (PGR) seized warehouses in Ciudad Juárez that they suspected were used by the cartel to store guns and narcotics. They also seized over 60 of Carrillo’s homes around Mexico and launched an inquiry into his interactions with police and government officials. Sonia Barragan Perez’s husband’s bank accounts totaling $10 billion were also frozen by officials. Vicente Carrillo Leyva, Carillo’s son, was arrested by Mexican police in April 2009.

The data available suggest that Sonia Barragan Perez had three children with her husband Carrillo. Her husband also had another son with another woman his name was Vicente Carrillo Leyva.  Sonia Barragan Perez’s children are Julio César Carrillo Leyva, Luis Fernando Carrillo Navarro, and Juan Carrillo Leyva.

Vicente Carrillo Leyva was arrested by Mexican authorities on April 2, 2009, but was later cleared of money laundering allegations, while charges of illegal firearms ownership delayed him from being released. He was released on 17 December 2010 to the custody of Mexican federal police with additional allegations of money laundering after being found guilty of illegal possession of guns and paying a US$16,000 fine.

According to a biography published in the Mexican daily El Universal, his father, Amado Carrillo Fuentes, the chief and creator of the Juarez Cartel, had advised Carrillo Leyva not to get involved in drug trafficking. Sonia Barragan Perez’s Husband followed this by sending his son to the greatest private colleges in México, Switzerland, and Spain. Carrillo Leyva, on the other hand, was unconcerned.

According to a report by reporteindigo, Sonia Barragan Perez’s son, Luis Fernando Carrillo Navarro is linked to the process for the femicide of Dolores Ámbar, a Sonoran student who was raped, stabbed, and burned, on May 30, 2019.

The portal reported that “The Sonora Attorney General’s Office reported that three people, including the son of Amado Carrillo, ‘El Señor de los Cielos’, were prosecuted for the femicide of Dolores Ámbar, a Sonoran architecture student who was raped and burned on the 30th of May.”

According to infobae, Sonia Barragan Perez’s son, César Carrillo Leyva have been murdered in 2020. According to the portal,

“On Thursday night, a command put an end to the eventful and troubled life of César Carrillo Leyva, the “Cesarín” , who was attacked at a home on Virgo Avenue between Constellation and Zapata streets in the Alfonso G. Calderón neighborhood, municipality of Navolato, Sinaloa.

The body pierced by the projectiles of the son of Amado Carrillo Fuentes”, was left lying inside the house.” Sonia Barragan Perez’s son Juan Carrillo Leyva on the other hand not much is known about him.

People in Morelos state staged silent marches against governor Jorge Carrillo Olea and his alleged carelessness with drug-related violence, increasing pressure on US and Mexican officials to apprehend him. Sonia Barragan Perez and her Husband Carrillo Fuentes lived three blocks from the governor’s official residence and conducted narco-fiestas in Tetecala on a regular basis.

Governor Carrillo Olea was forced to resign and was arrested; this type of pressure may have persuaded Carrillo Fuentes to undergo facial plastic surgery and abdominal liposuction on July 4, 1997, at Santa Mónica Hospital in Mexico City, in order to change his appearance.

However, Sonia Barragan Perez’s Husband died during the operation as a result of complications caused by a medication or a malfunctioning respirator (there is very little paperwork regarding his death).

Two of Carrillo Fuentes’s bodyguards were in the operating room during the procedure. On November 7, 1997, the two surgeons who performed Carrillo’s surgery were found dead, encased in concrete inside steel drums, with their bodies showing signs of torture.
