Melih was born on October 29, 1958, in Paris, IDF France. He is the child of Harold Nicholas and his second wife Elyanne Patronne. He died on November 5, 2003, at the age of 45. Melih was not the only child of his parents, He had a step-sibling, Harolyn Suzanne Nicholas from his father’s first marriage to singer and dancer Dorothy Dandridge.

Melih Nicholas’s father Harold was married three times and was a father of two children. The dancer’s first marriage, on September 6, 1942, was to the actress, singer, and dancer Dorothy Dandridge. The couple’s paths crossed at the Cotton Club in Harlem in 1938. After one thing led to another, the couple started a relationship and eventually got married four years later.

Together they had a daughter, Harolyn Suzanne, who was born on September 2, 1943 (died in 2003) with severe brain damage that prevented her from speaking or even acknowledging her parents according to Harold’s Wikipedia.

By 1948, their marriage was not going as planned and Harold abandoned his family. Their marriage lasted nine years, ending in 1951. The dancer was later linked romantically to Swedish actress Nita Dova. He then exchanged his vows for the second time with Elyanne Patronne. Harold had his son, Melih, with his second wife Elyanne Patronne. At the time of his death, the dancer had divorced Patronne and was married to Rigmor Newman Nicholas.

  Melih Nicholas was also Married on 30 June 1989 in Clark County, Nevada to Janice F. Stout according to Ancient Face, however, there was no mention of the couple having any children.

Melih Nicholas passed away on 5 November 2003 at the age of 45 at his home in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, USA according to his Find A Grave profile. There is very little known about the cause of his death. Melih’s father Harold also died in New York City on July 3, 2000, at the age of 79, from heart failure. He was inducted into the National Museum of Dance C.V. Whitney Hall of Fame in 2001, along with his brother Fayard Nicholas.

Melih Nicholas’s father Harold was born to drummer and orchestra leader Ulysses Domonick and pianist Viola Harden in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. When Harold was born, seven-year-old Fayard insisted that the child be named after his idol, Harold Lloyd, the silent-screen comedian.

The careers of Herold and his brother, Fayard, began in their childhood. When Fayard was 16 and Harold nine, they made their first appearance at the legendary Cotton Club in New York City and were a popular success immediately. The brothers soon began dancing, and they quickly gained acclaim for their elegant acrobatic moves and mastery of tap.

The younger Nicolas continued to perform as a singer and raconteur into the 1990s as a guest artist with companies including Lynn Dally’s Jazz Tap Ensemble, with which the brothers were to have appeared in a tribute this week in Los Angeles.
