Melanie Juneau Luttrell is the wife of Marcus Luttrell. Melanie Juneau Luttrell’s husband Marcus is a veteran US Navy SEAL who was awarded the Navy Cross and the Purple Heart for his operations against Taliban insurgents during Operation Red Wings in June 2005, in which he was the sole survivor. By the end of his eight-year tenure in the US Navy, Luttrell had advanced to the rank of SO1.

Marcus Luttrell and Melanie Juneau Luttrell started dating through emails and phone calls. This led to texting, which led to seven-hour phone calls. Melanie had been away from home throughout these periods of their long calls, but when she returned, she finally met the man with whom she had been having such in-depth discussions.

Melanie Juneau Luttrell and Marcus first meet at a restaurant and talked until the cleaning staff arrived. They’d clicked right away and didn’t want the night to end. When they parted, Marcus texted Melanie, “this is the last time you will ever leave without me.”

Marcus wanted his twin brother Morgan, who is also a Navy Seal, to return from Iraq, so their wedding was postponed. On November 27, 2010, they married in Texas. They got married in a beautiful ceremony in the presence of their friends, family, and loved ones.

Axe, their first child, a son, was born on May 8, 2011. Axe is named after a fallen SEAL comrade Matthew Axelson and Addie, their daughter, who was also born on August 26, 2012. Melanie Juneau Luttrell is also the mother of a sixteen-year-old son from a previous marriage. Melanie has worked as an executive at Juneau Exploration, a Houston-based oil and gas exploration firm. Outside of Houston, the family lives on a ranch. The movie, Lone Survivor, with Mark Wahlberg as Marcus, opened on the 25 of December 2013.

Marcus Luttrell (born November 7, 1975) is a former United States Navy SEAL who received the Navy Cross and Purple Heart for his actions in June 2005 against Taliban fighters during Operation Red Wings in which he was the lone survivor. Luttrell became a SO1 by the end of his eight-year career in the United States Navy.

Melanie Juneau Luttrell’s husband returned to the U.S. in 2007 and co-authored the New York Times bestseller Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10. A film version, starring Mark Wahlberg, was released on December 25, 2013.

In 2007, Melanie Juneau Luttrell’s husband Luttrell was medically discharged from the Navy. In 2009, he was granted a medical retirement through the Board for the Correction of Naval Records.

In May 2012, Little, Brown, and Company released Luttrell’s latest book, co-authored with James D. Hornfischer, Service: A Navy SEAL at War.

Lone Survivor Foundation

In 2010, Melanie Juneau Luttrell’s husband Marcus Luttrell established the Lone Survivor Foundation. The mission of the foundation, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is to “restore, empower, and renew hope for our wounded warriors and their families through health, wellness, and therapeutic support.”

Luttrell and The Lone Survivor Foundation partnered with The Boot Campaign to help show tangible appreciation of America’s active-duty military, raise awareness of the challenges they face upon return, and support the transition home.
