Mark Towner’s mother Barbara Ruick was an actress and singer. Early in her career, Ruick sang in clubs and acted in Little Theater productions before she landed a job on Hollywood Screen Test, a talent show which aired on ABC. She then made an appearance on the Kraft Television Theater, soap operas, and The College Bowl (1950), which was hosted by Chico Marx.

Mark Towner Williams’ mother also played Carrie Pipperidge in the film version of Carousel (1956) and Esmerelda, one of the wicked stepsisters, in the 1965 TV version of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
Ruick died in Reno, Nevada, while filming a small part in Robert Altman’s California Split on location. She was discovered dead in her hotel room on the afternoon of March 3, 1974, where her body had been lying for 10 to 12 hours. She had complained of nausea and a headache the night before. Her death was caused by a ruptured berry aneurysm and intracerebral hemorrhage, according to the coroner. John Williams is now married to Samantha Winslow.

He studied drums under Joe Porcaro, studied music theory, and attended Berklee College of Music from 1976 to 1979. Mark Towner also played drums for the group Air Supply from 1995 and has also played on albums and tours for big names in the industry including Don Henley, Cher, Tina Turner, and Crosby Stills & Nash.
