Margaret Francis West’s mother Anne Francis died on January 2, 2011, at age 80, in Santa Barbara, California, U.S. Her death was caused by complications due to pancreatic cancer. She was a smoker for much of her adult life and although she quit smoking, she was diagnosed with non-small-cell lung cancer in the 2000s. She was cremated and her ashes were scattered at sea. She is survived by her daughters Jane Elizabeth Abeloff and Margaret Francis West and other family members.
