Who Is Magda Vasallo?

Magda Vasallo is the ex-wife of the late Raúl Rafael Carlos Juliá Arcelay also known as Raul Julia. The ex-husband of Magda, Raul Julia was a Puerto Rican actor. He took over the role of Orson in the Off-Broadway hit Your Own Thing, a rock musical update of Twelfth Night. He performed in mobile projects, including the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater.

Is Magda Vasallo Still Alive?

As to whether Magda Vasallo is still alive or not, is unknown. Vasallo has avoided the spotlight and doesn’t appear at public events or make any headlines. She has not been in the news recently so it is difficult to tell if she is still alive as of 2022. What we know is that her ex-husband Raul Julia is no longer alive. Raul Julia died at age 54, in Manhasset, New York, U.S.

Raul Julia took his final breath on October 24, 1994. He had stomach cancer for three years before he died and had undergone surgery for it. He also contracted food poisoning after consuming sushi during the filming of The Burning Season in Mexico and was airlifted to a hospital in Los Angeles to receive medical attention.

Raul Julia recovered and returned to Mexico to finish the film. On the night of October 20, 1994, he suffered a stroke and fell into a coma, and was put on life support. He died four days later from complications of the stroke, never having regained consciousness. His body was transported to Puerto Rico as he wished.

A state funeral was held in San Juan on October 27, 1994, with his body being escorted to the building of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, where a funeral ceremony was held. For his performance in The Burning Season, he was posthumously awarded a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a CableACE Award, and an Emmy Award.

In 1996, Raul Julia was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame on Broadway. The Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce created the Raúl Juliá Scholarship Fund in 1997, intended to provide a college education for teenagers.
