Madonna Louise Fortin was born on 11 July 1933, in Bay City, Bay County, Michigan, USA to Willard A. Fortin and Elsie Mae Fortin. She is the sister of Dale J. Fortin, Earl Joseph Fortin, Michael Willard Fortin, Marilynn Rose Fortin Sparks, and Gary Thomas Fortin.
Madonna Louise Fortin was of French-Canadian descent. She was married to Silvio Anthony “Tony” Ciccone, who worked as an engineer designer for Chrysler and General Motors. They got married on July 2 1955 in Bay City, Michigan.

Together, Madonna Louise Fortin and Silvio Ciccone had six children: Madonna, Paula Ciccone, Melanie Ciccone, Martin Ciccone, Christopher Ciccone, and Anthony Ciccone. The children were raised in the Detroit suburbs of Pontiac and Avon Township (now Rochester Hills).
Madonna Louise Fortin and Silvio Ciccone were married until Madonna died in 1963. After she died, her husband Silvio got married to the family’s housekeeper Joan Gustafson in 1966. They gave birth to two children, Jennifer Ciccone, and Mario Ciccone.

Madonna’s mother Madonna Louise Fortin’s life was cut short due to breast cancer. She died on 1 December 1963, in Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan, USA, at the age of 30 years. She was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, in Kawkawlin, Bay County, Michigan, USA.

Madonna Louise Fortin was unable to witness her daughter Madonna became as successful as she is in her career. Madonna was just five years old when her mother passed away. She spoke about her mother’s death saying:
“I’m sure that it has influenced every decision that I’ve made and sort of left me with a feeling of hunger and longing; a feeling of emptiness and growing up afraid to love things because they’re going to leave you.”

In 1989, Madonna admitted to Rolling Stone about her mother saying, “If she were alive, I would be someone else. I would be a completely different person.”
According to sources, Madonna revealed: ‘Then my mother spent about a year in the hospital, and I saw my father going through changes also. He was devastated. It is awful to see your father cry. But he was very strong about it. He would take us to the hospital to see her, and I remember my mother was always cracking up and making jokes.

She was really funny so it wasn’t so awful to go and visit her there. Then my mother died. I remember that right before she died she asked for a hamburger. She wanted to eat a hamburger because she couldn’t eat anything for so long, and I thought that was very funny.
I didn’t actually watch her die. I left and then she died. Then everything changed. My family was always split up and we had to go stay at relatives’.
