Who is Jesse Diamond?

Jesse Diamond is the son of popular American singer and songwriter Neil Diamond. Jesse Diamond’s father gained massive public attention for his songs such as “Sweet Caroline”,  “Holly Holy” and  “Cracklin’ Rosie. The singer was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984 and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. He also received the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000.

Jesse Diamond was born in April 1970 in the United States of America. He is the son of  Neil Diamond and his ex-wife Marcia Murphey. As of 2023, he is 53 years old. Jesse has a biological brother whose name is Micah Diamond and two half-sisters from his father’s previous marriage- Marjorie Diamond and Elyn Diamond. His mother Marcia Murphey was a Production assistant.

Talking about his Son with so much emotion, the singer said – “Marcia and I had a son, Jesse, and I got involved with my new baby in a way I hadn’t done with my two girls. I was still writing songs, but I wasn’t travelling and Jesse and I just hung out together and it was great. It was an important period in my life and a chance for me to finally start understanding who I was.” When Jesse was born, Diamond called a halt to public appearances. “I learned how to go fishing—and enjoy it,” he says.

Jesse Diamond is a Photographer

Neil Diamond’s son is a Musician and a songwriter turned photographer. He is based in Los Angeles California. Jesse has worked with his father on many projects. According to his IMDB profile, he is known for  Neil Diamond: Under a Tennessee Moon (1996) and Backstage: Welcome to Diamondville (2003).

Jesse and his younger brother Micah who is also a photographer worked with their father on his Album, Classic Diamonds. While talking with Forbes about his Album which is a pairing with the London Symphony Orchestra, the singer said his children were very helpful while he was working on the album. The singer said his children especially Micah worked two days straight without food and sleep.

Jesse Diamond was married to Actress Sheryl Lee

Neil Diamond’s son Jesse Diamond was married to actress Sheryl Lee, with whom he has one child: son Elijah Diamond. Elijah was born on May 2, 2000 (six months before his parents’ actual wedding). Jesse’s ex-wife is a film, stage, and television actress.

She is known for roles include Astrid Kirchherr in Backbeat (1994), as well as a lead role in the drama Mother Night (1996), the role of Katrina in Vampires (1998) and the part of April in Winter’s Bone (2010). She also  reprised her role of Laura Palmer in the Showtime revival of Twin Peaks in 2017.

It is unclear which year exactly Jesse Diamond and his wife Sheryl ended their marriage unlike his parents who ended their marriage in  1995 after 26 years together. The divorce took a toll on Neil Diamond so much so that he didn’t bother to correct rumours that he paid his wife $150 million, said to be the biggest ever divorce settlement at the time.
