To set the record straight, Jerome Crayon is the half-brother of rapper Dr. Dre. Jerome is the son of Verna Young and Curtis Crayon. Jerome’s mother was married to Dr. Dre’s biological father, Theodore Young but they separated in 1968 and divorced in 1972.
Jerome’s mother, Verna Young had three children with Curtis Crayon, sons Jerome and Tyree (both deceased) and daughter Shameka. Jerome’s mother Verna is a teacher at the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School. She had also become the principal of Bonham Elementary School for nearly nine years.
Jerome’s mother later got divorced from his father, Curtis Crayon, and married Warren Griffin. Warren also had children from a previous marriage; three daughters and one son Warren Griffin III (Warren G). Unfortunately, Jerome Crayon died after suffering from pneumonia as an infant. Dr. Dre dedicated a track called “The Message” off the album 2001 to Jerome, per sources.
Jerome’s biological brother, Tyree who was born on March 19, 1968, also died at age 21 on June 25, 1989, in a violent incident. Dr. Dre began as a member of the World Class Wreckin’ Cru in 1985. He found fame with the gangsta rap group N.W.A. During the early 1990s, he was credited as a key figure in the crafting and popularization of West Coast G-funk, a subgenre of hip hop characterized by a synthesizer foundation and slow, heavy beats.
Dr. Dre had his solo debut studio album called The Chronic (1992), released under Death Row Records. He released the singles “Let Me Ride”, and “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang”. His song, “Bad Intentions” (featuring Knoc-Turn’Al) and produced by Mahogany, was featured on The Wash soundtrack.
