In the next 42 days, the former president will get clarity on whether his reliefs as contained in the petition will be granted by the Apex Court or not.
The petitioner, Former President Mahama, is seeking a rerun of the December 7, 2020 elections between himself and President Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party because he believes both leading candidates did not obtain 50 percent of the valid votes as required by the constitution.
Unlike in 2012, where the then Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood constituted a nine-member panel and delegated powers to the Senior-most member, retired Justice William Atuguba to preside on the panel to adjudicate the matter, the current Chief Justice has set up a seven-member panel including himself as the presiding Justice.
It is important to note that the various Justices at the Supreme have at a time point in time been appointed by former President John Agyekum Kuffour, former President John Dramani Mahama and President Nana Akuffo-Addo respectively on various levels of their careers and so there is no iota of doubt of their capabilities to deliver justice to the satisfaction of all Ghanaians.
