E’Dena Hines was born on 4th March 1982, in Alameda County, California, USA. She was the daughter of Deena Freeman and Edward Lee Hines. Her mother Deena was the stepdaughter of Morgan Freeman from his first marriage to Jeanette Adair Bradshaw (from October 22, 1967, until November 18, 1979).
E’Dena Hines was raised by her step-grandfather Morgan Freeman and his now ex-wife Myrna Colley-Lee. E’Dena was an actress. She played Maid in “Moll Flanders”. She appeared in 2 episodes of the TV Series, “A Minority Report”. She was also a Receptionist in “5 Flights Up”, Jo in “Cohab”, and Cece in “Landing Up”.
E’Dena served as a staff production assistant for “The Code” as an additional crew. Per her website, she studied acting at New York University’s prestigious Graduate Acting Program. She taught “under-exposed youths” in Memphis, Tennessee. Disclosing how she is often described as “energetic, loud, and animated,” E’Dena wrote in a blog post:
“I thought I was the group cheerleader, giving them what they needed to keep going cause I was blessed with exuberant amounts of energy, but, I was more exhausted when it counted,” she wrote. “While everyone else would be relaxing on breaks, I was entertaining or so I thought.”

How Did Morgan Freeman’s Granddaughter Die?
E’Dena Hines died on 16 August 2015, in Harlem, New York County, New York, USA. She was 33 years of age when she passed away. E’Dena was murdered. She was stabbed and killed by her boyfriend, Lamar Davenport. Her boyfriend stabbed her with a knife multiple times outside her New York apartment while under the influence of drugs and alcohol, Manhattan District Attorney, Cyrus Vance reported.

“After binging on mind-altering drugs and alcohol, Lamar Davenport’s actions were simply horrific,” Vance said in a statement at the time. “He knocked Ms. Hines to the ground, pinned her down, and stabbed her an appalling 25 times—including twice through her heart.”
“Ambitious and driven, E’Dena Hines was deeply loved by family and friends before her life was brought to a horrific and tragic end by her boyfriend, Lamar Davenport,” said Vance. “I would like to thank the prosecutors in my office for securing a prison sentence commensurate with his extraordinarily violent crime, and offer my sympathies to Ms. Hines’ loved ones as they continue to mourn.”

E’Dena Hines and her boyfriend Lamar Davenport reportedly had discussed taking a break over text messages before her death. Lamar got a sentence of 20 years in state prison. He was convicted of manslaughter in the first degree after a trial at the New York State Supreme Court in May 2018. Following his arrest, he was taken to a hospital and was given sedatives.

The boyfriend-turned-killer reportedly awoke screaming the words: “Why did this happen? No, no! Why God?” On August 16, 2015, authorities responded to a 911 call at about 3 a.m. They arrived at the scene and found E’Dena Hines lying in the street outside her home. E’Dena was rushed to Harlem Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her step-grandfather Morgan Freeman said in a statement to PEOPLE:
“The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. He added: “Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”

An attorney for E’Dena Hines’ boyfriend, Lamar Davenport is said to have claimed in court that E’Dena told Lamar that she and her step-grandfather Morgan Freeman had an “inappropriate” sexual relationship. This accusation was previously denied by both E’Dena and Morgan. Although E’Dena and Morgan are not related by blood, they were very close and they attended several public events together.
“E’Dena Hines disclosed to Lamar Davenport and others that her grandfather engaged in a sexually inappropriate relationship with her,” Lamar’s lawyer, Beth Unger claimed in court Friday, per the New York Post. A testimony from a therapist who claimed that Lamar had revealed that he often argued with E’Dena about infidelity was provided.

“Lamar admitted to me that they had a violent relationship,” said Dr. Jeremy Colley. “[Their] disagreements could be emotionally intense.” Previously, there had been rumors about Morgan Freeman having a romantic relationship with E’Dena Hines. In a statement by Morgan, he said according to TMZ:
“The recent reports of any pending marriage or romantic relationship of me to anyone are defamatory fabrications from the tabloid media designed to sell papers. What is even more alarming is that these fabrications are now being picked up by the legitimate press as well.”
E’Dena Hines also mentioned in a statement, per TMZ: ”These stories about me and my grandfather are not only untrue, they are also hurtful to me and my family.”
